A bit about me
Hi, I’m Leila and you’ll find me thinking, talking and researching all things psychology
I live in the midlands, in the heart of the National Forest about 2 miles from where I grew up! but I spent 10 years living in Manchester where I trained as an application consultant ( mainframe computers - showing my age there!) and from there I transitioned into management consultancy.
When I say management consultant it makes some people shudder, but it just means that most of my work has been strategically led, and often delivered through a project where I’ve been employed on a fxed term contract or paid through my own consulting business.
I’ve enjoyed a very varied career working with charities, councils, police forces, the NHS and utility companies. You can read my career history over on Linkedin, if that’s your kind of thing! From implementing a maternal mental health service to designing council tax schemes and developing an algorithm to work out the right type of gritty lubricant to apply to train tracks… these projects have been transformational. I enjoy the human element of delivering projects, I love hosting workshops and I’m a great facilitator.
I’m really proud of my cross-industry experience, and it’s given me a unique set of skills , (and random knowledge about trains, computer networks and doing public consultations) but my passion is people and how our beautiful brains work. So, several years ago I started a slow career swerve, I completed a Masters in Psychology, and now I’m working on a PhD.
My psychology research interests are Imposter Phenomenon and entreprenurial communities, networking and group identities. The question I’m interested in is ‘how does being a member of a community create psychological richness?’
I love running, I’ve completed 3 ultra marathons and this tells you a little bit about my determination and resilience!
Non-executive roles
I’m the honorary treasurer and social media lead for British Psychological Society East Midlands branch.
Business advisor to Connected Perinatatal Support.
I have also been chair of governors for a local primary school, chair of trustees for the Lesbian Community Project, Chair for the Women’s Space working group at Manchester Pride and a trustee for South Derbyshire Voluntary Service
